Guerrilla Marketing and Viral Marketing
The term Guerrilla Marketing was coined in the year 1984. The then published book called "Guerrilla Marketing" described it as an unconventional system of promotions on a very low budget, by relying on time, energy and imagination instead of big marketing budgets. However today, this term is used to generally describe any aggressive, unconventional marketing method.
Levinson, the author of the book identifies the following principles as the foundation of guerrilla marketing:
- Guerrilla marketing is specifically geared for the small business and entrepreneur.
- It should be based on human psychology instead of experience, judgment, and guesswork.
- Instead of money, the primary investments of marketing should be time, energy, and imagination.
- The primary statistic to measure your business is the amount of profits, not sales.
- The marketer should also concentrate on how many new relationships are made each month.
- Create a standard of excellence with an acute focus instead of trying to diversify by offering too many diverse products and services.
- Instead of concentrating on getting new customers, aim for more referrals, more transactions with existing customers, and larger transactions.
- Forget about the competition and concentrate more on cooperating with other businesses.
- Guerrilla Marketers should always use a combination of marketing methods for a campaign. Use current technology as a tool.
Guerilla is today associated and used as a substitute term for many non-traditional marketing media including viral marketing, buzz marketing, ambient marketing, undercover marketing, undercover marketing, presence marketing. Online viral marketing campaign is concerned with marketing techniques that use preexisting Internet based social networks. Promotions are done using video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, e-books, software, images, or text messages.

Spamdexing is Black Hat SEO
Search engine optimization (SEO) has become a common term and SEO as a profession is approved by the major search engines but only as long as one does not cross the line and engages in the use of black hat SEO techniques. The differentiation between black hat and white hat SEO is quite clear. Spamdexing (or Spam Indexing) is a black hat SEO technique that heads the list and must be avoided by any self respecting SEO professional. Spamdexing is mainly about the different methods used to manipulate the relevancy or prominence of resources indexed by a search engine, in a manner inconsistent with the purpose of the indexing system. One of the most popular methods under this category is done by the repetition of irrelevant phrases in the text. Another method quite similar to spamdexing is called Google bombing and involves the practice of deliberately modifying HTML pages so that it increases the chance of the pages being placed almost at the beginning of search engine results. Such modifications are also done to falsely categorize a webpage. One cannot forget the Political Google bombs that were used during the 2004 US Presidential elections, nor the first Google bomb that was directed against Microsoft. Google wanted to preserve the integrity of its search engine and had taken a passive stand to these attacks but later changed their indexing structure. More details are available at, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_Google_bombsSpamdexing is basically of two types, While content spamming techniques consists of making doorway pages, keywords stuffing, having hidden / invisible irrelevant text, "made for adsense" sites, and Meta tag stuffing; link spamming is basically about having links between web pages that are present for reasons other than merit.

Image SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Any one regularly browsing the Internet knows about the misery of endlessly waiting for a web page to come up on the screen. Very often we skip the page or website when it starts taking even a bit too longer than a few seconds. Most of the time the increased time taken for opening up of the webpage is due to the heavy image files on the page. Therefore one must see that image files that are put on websites must be optimized so that this can reduce the time taken for opening of the webpages.
Thus all graphics have to be made user-friendly. Images have to be edited, sharpened, condensed, and cropped to give them a better quality. It will also help in lowering the down load time. Some of the different image optimization processes are,
- Image size definition
- Image compression
- Alt tag generation
- Slide show creation
- Include keywords in image file names
- File format conversions
- Use captions and descriptive text near images
- Image modifications
- Have unique/original images
- Dimension declaration in pixels.
Now that Google is popularizing the Universal search that displays a blended SERP (Search engine Results Page), it is a good idea to optimize our site for Google image search also. Remember to enable the enhanced image search in Google webmasters tools. One can find it under Diagnostics / Tools / Enhanced Image Search.

Firefox Extensions Developed for Search Engine Optimization
SEO professionals and Web masters are forever searching for extra data about websites, links, their competitor website data and more to stay ahead. Many SEO professionals today are using the Mozilla /Firefox web browser and have installed the "SEO for Firefox" extension (from Aaron Wall of SEObook.com) as they find it to be quite useful while doing their basic SEO search work. Though there are many free online SEO tools that we can use instantly, most of the good ones now require a subscription/password. Of course professional SEOs have access to hundreds of SEO tools but the process can often take more time than we may have. With the "SEO for Firefox" type of extension we can easily get the required information directly on Google and Yahoo even as we browse the web. So for some really quick basic information this one is often good enough.
After installing this "SEO for Firefox" extension a cute SEO icon appears on the browser's statusbar. Almost 15 parameters are available as a default. These are, Page Rank, Age, Links (Yahoo! linkdomain), .edu Links (Yahoo! .edu linkdomain), .edu Page Links (Yahoo! .edu link), .gov Link (Yahoo! .gov linkdomain), Page Links (Yahoo! link), del.icio.us, Technorati, Alexa, Cached, dmoz, Bloglines, dir.yahoo.com, MSN Links, MSN .edu Links, MSN .gov Links, MSN Page Links, MSN .edu Page Links and Whois.
The SEO for Firefox extension can be downloaded from the SEObook site at; http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/seo-for-firefox.html

Web Syndication and Search Engine Optimization
Web syndication is defined as a form of syndication in which a section of a website is made available for other sites to use. There are millions of websites on the net and the Internet is growing by the minute. Searching for documents and web pages are indeed getting to be easier due to the continuous improvements by search engines like Google and the evolving digital technologies. However, it is said that only a fraction of documents are retrieved by the majority of people. The deeper pages make up the larger fraction and the person must have the skill to search the deep web and have access to it.
Web syndication is a great technique. Now everyone has their required information on websites/blogs etc delivered automatically. Usually the web feeds are made available by websites that allow web content to be sent out either for a fee or for free. Web feeds are data formats used for providing users with frequently updated content. Blog sites are frequently updated and syndication allows us to have access to it via these feeds. Thus if we have ten different places of interests, instead of going to each of these ten different sites everyday all one needs do is to subscribe to feeds from these different sites and we can access them all at one spot/page itself. This work of collecting all different feeds is done by aggregator applications that reside on remote servers and are typically available as web applications such as "Google Reader". Here is a list of good feed aggregators;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_feed_aggregators
You may wonder how it is that syndication helps SEO or search engine optimization? It's quite simple. After syndication our content is on more than one website and so gets extra placements in the search engines because our content is published in different forms as articles, press releases, news, tips etc.
Are you looking out for affordable yet highly professional SEO/SEM services for your website? Just call OSI (Outsource Strategies International) the Oklahoma based outsourcing pioneer and leader.Labels: RSS, SEM, SEO search engine optimization services, web, web feed, web syndication

Marketing and Blogs
Marketing is an old word in business management but changes in marketing technology have been constatntly revolutionizing the science of marketing. I remember studying marketing in college when the Internet was not a major force by itself. Those days we assumed that business and marketing would always involve huge expenses in traveling and postage and communication. Most of that concept has changed today. Today online marketing is an unavoidable aspect for any product or service and one can even say that the world in itself has become one big market place networked by the Internet and globalization will breaking all barriers of race, creed distance and time.
Communication has always been the key to marketing and will always be so. And blogging is a great way to communicate. Blogs are great marketing tools of today that let us communicate on a local national and international level. One may represent a business house or may even be just an individual. Using one's personal blog a person today can further his career, share his personal life with others, and network with others from the same field irrespective of their location.
So what is a blog? Actually the word "blog" is a combination of the words "web" and "log". Blog entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Actually blogs did begin in 1900 when people did keep online diaries. Today blogs have evolved and may consist of a combination of text, images, links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on photographs (photoblog), videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting). Readymade software is available that has made blogs very user friendly for all.
Among the main uses of blogs for marketing include,
- Used to exchange ideas
- Network with other professionals
- Promote self/ business
- Show our work /writing/product
- Develop rapport with customers/prospects
- Communicate among employees
- Better search engine indexing of website
- Increase traffic
- Regular postings increase repeat visits

Search Engine Optimization and Usability
SEO is about improving our website's visibility on the web while usability is about giving valuable and useful service to the website visitors. By definition usability is the ease with which people can employ a particular tool or other human-made object in order to achieve a particular goal. Thus we find that websites have to be primarily useful. Quite often we do come across a website that may be good looking but don't really serve any purpose and the visitors do not find it useful. Such sites do not get repeat visitors. Some times visitors are seen exiting a website as soon as they enter the website. These are sites known to have a high bounce rate.
After being able to attract traffic into your website you should be able to retain the incoming traffic and also motivate the visitor to take the required action (Clicks etc) and thereby fulfill the website's objective of increasing the conversion rates.
Thus we see that websites basically need to be well designed, be usable enough and also be optimized for the major search engines. It is also essentially necessary to make a testing and study its usability. There are many types of websites but how does one measure the usability of our website? One must find out if our site visitors are really happy with the website and do find it useful. Answers for such questions can be had with the help of a professional web analytics software / service. One can also study the traffic log files of the website to know details of visitors and their behavior on the website.
Following are some of the factors that do matter while studying a web site's usability.
- Pages per visit
- Time on the website
- Bounce rate
- Trouble pages
- Exit pages
- Conversion rates
Similar to usability, search engine optimization is another aspect of a website that determines how many incoming visitors or unique visitors enter our website. Without a good SEO campaign the best of usable websites would remain hidden from the majority of the online visitors. An integrated approach with regards to web designing, website/page usability and search engine optimization would really go a long way in achieving the objectives and goals of the website.

The Ideal PPC Company
This is how Pay per Click (PPC) is defined by Wikipedia. "Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content websites/blogs, where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an ad to visit the advertiser's website." Advertisers have to bid on keywords that they think their target market may type in while searching for a product or service.
If you have a product/service and want to sell it online using PPC ads you will need to decide on a professional advertisement company to manage your online advertisements. There are many online and offline PPC advertising companies. How do you go about choose a PPC Company? Will you just call them up or send one of the online companies an e-mail? What are the questions that you should ask? Remember selecting the right company is very important and the following questions must be answered satisfactorily by the prospective advertising company. These questions include,
- Will you run the entire PPC program?
- How many current programs are you managing?
- Are you tied up with just one program?
- What is the benefit of choosing your company?
- Do you have alternate choice for bidding?
There are some PPC consulting companies that have just one PPC program sponsored by a search engine company. They usually have a contract from a specific advertiser. There are other online marketing companies that run the program on multiple PPC advertisers and can be more advantageous from a client's point of view. The advantages are,
- Can increase online user base
- More choices for competitive bidding
While one chooses the PPC do remember that choosing the PPC marketing companies can have great impact on our results. It is better to go for a marketing company with years of experience in running PPC programs and domain knowledge. It is also necessary and ideal that the company you choose does have they have keyword bidding experience for similar types of business as yours. Thus if you run a website running that does online marketing of bed linen get hold of an advertising company that has experience catering to similar or allied businesses.
