What is Scoping?

Scoping specialists are hired to take the legal testimony that is produced by court reporters in computerized shorthand and, using specialized software, translate the material into English. They then edit the text that results, inserting proper names and technical words that the computer's dictionary does not catch, proofread the finished result and format it to court specifications. Scopists work for individual reporters or groups of reporters. Our scopists are smart, efficient and have a very good command of the English language, as well as appropriate "legaleze". Due to the advent of computerization in the courtroom, we are able to produce legal transcripts as a support service to court reporters. Our turnaround time can be customized. We use our experts in the legal profession combined with our experience in Medical, technical and other businesses to provide a good document.

Pricing

OSI scoping service is priced on a per page basis. We use the final number of pages after editing or proofreading of rough transcripts that are submitted to us. We modify our base rate per page using the following factors that will increase or decrease our charge. Variables include the amount of work, turnaround time from 5 days to 24 hours, the type of editing (standard edit to steno, edit full verbatim or proof read, etc.). We also look at the quality of audio and type of transcript necessary, including, medical, technical (with expert testimony) etc.
