CDC Releases FY2019 ICD-10-CM Code Changes

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released the fiscal year (FY) 2019 ICD-10-CM (diagnosis) code changes. The ICD-10-CM code set for 2019 includes 279 additions, 51 deletions, and 143 revised codes – making it 71,932 codes, compared to the 71,701 codes of2018 (an additional 228 codes). Each year CDC updates these code sets and it is important for medical coders and medical coding companies to stay updated with these coding changes.

The updated 2019 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019.

While outsourcing their claim submission tasks, physician offices must also make sure that the medical billing and coding services provided by the chosen company also abides to such coding updates. Such companies must also provide standard training for their staff before October 1, 2018.
